Gemini Code Assist Standard costs $19.00 per user per month on a 12-month commitment and $22.80 month to month. Enterprise is $45.00 per user per month on a 12-month commitment and $54.00 month to month. Google does not print those numbers anywhere. It publishes an hourly rate to nine decimal places on its Cloud pricing page and leaves the multiplication to you, which is why most articles about Gemini Code Assist quote no price at all.
That pricing quirk mattered a lot less a year ago, when most developers touching Google's coding tools were using the free tier and never saw a license page. It matters now. Since Google stopped serving Gemini CLI requests to free, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra users on June 18, 2026, a Code Assist license is the only supported seat-based way to keep running it. The price of that seat went from a footnote to the whole decision.
How much does Gemini Code Assist cost?
Google's Cloud pricing page lists Gemini Code Assist by the hour, with two rates per edition: one for a monthly commitment and one for a 12-month commitment. Google's own convention is 730 hours to a month. Multiply through and every figure lands on a clean number to the cent, which is a strong hint that these are the intended prices rather than a coincidence of rounding.

All subscriptions are billed monthly regardless of which commitment you pick. The commitment changes the rate, not the invoice cadence.
The cleanest fact to take away from that table is the spread between the two columns. Committing for a year saves exactly 20% on both editions. That is unusually tidy for enterprise software pricing, where the discount for a longer term is normally something you negotiate rather than something you read. Here it is published, fixed, and identical whether you buy five seats or five hundred.
Why does Google price Gemini Code Assist per hour?
Because Code Assist is sold as part of Gemini for Google Cloud, and Google Cloud prices nearly everything by the hour so that partial periods prorate cleanly. A seat added on the 14th costs half a month without anybody having to write a proration rule. It is internally consistent and it is genuinely fairer than a whole-month minimum.
The side effect is that the price becomes invisible to anyone comparing tools. A developer weighing Code Assist against Claude Code or Copilot is reading pricing pages that say $20 and $10, and a Google page that says $0.026027397. The comparison does not happen, or it happens on a guess. If you are the person building that comparison for your team, do the 730-hour multiplication once and write the result down somewhere your finance team can find it, alongside the rest of your per-seat SaaS spend. Teams that already track cloud and SaaS spend in one place tend to catch this sort of thing at renewal rather than a year late.
What is the difference between Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise?
Standard is the IDE-focused product: code completion, generation and chat in VS Code and IntelliJ, local codebase awareness, code transformation, agent mode, database development assistance, Gemini in Firebase, BigQuery data insights, and enterprise-grade security with generative AI indemnification. Gemini CLI is included.
Enterprise adds four things that Standard does not have at any price:
- Code customization. Responses tuned against your own private repositories rather than public code alone. This is the feature most teams are actually buying Enterprise for.
- Gemini in Apigee for API design and operations, and Gemini in Application Integration for process automation.
- Additional Gemini Cloud Assist features covering infrastructure management, diagnostics and cost optimization.
- Increased agent usage, which Google describes as higher daily usage limits for agent mode and the Gemini CLI.
That last bullet deserves attention, because it is the only published statement anywhere about how much Gemini CLI you get for your money. Google says Enterprise raises the daily usage limits. It does not say what either limit is. So the honest summary of Code Assist pricing is that you can forecast the invoice to the cent and still not know what quota you have bought, which is the exact inverse of Anthropic's approach, where the quota mechanics are documented and the dollar meter does not exist.
Is Gemini Code Assist still free?
There is still a free Gemini Code Assist for individuals, and it is a different thing from what you get with a license. The important change is what it no longer includes: as of June 18, 2026 the free individual tier and the Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions stopped being served for Gemini CLI and the Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions. Gemini Code Assist for GitHub was part of the same change, with no new organization installations from that date.
Google's stated reason was consolidation rather than cost. It is putting its effort into Google Antigravity, and the terminal piece of that, Antigravity CLI, is the intended replacement for individuals. Antigravity has a free Individual plan. What it does not have is a published quota: Google's pricing page describes the free allowance only as basic weekly rate limits and gives no figure. Does a Gemini Code Assist license still include Gemini CLI?
Yes, on both editions, and this is the part of the announcement that got least attention. Google was explicit that organizations using Gemini CLI or the IDE extensions through a Code Assist Standard or Enterprise license keep their access unchanged, with continued support and access to the latest Gemini models. The cutoff was aimed at consumer tiers, not at licensed customers.
There is a second surviving path that costs nothing up front: Gemini CLI remains accessible through paid Gemini and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform API keys. Set an API key from AI Studio, or authenticate through Vertex AI with a Cloud project, and you pay consumption rates instead of a seat fee. For a small team that uses the CLI in bursts rather than daily, that is very often cheaper than $19 a seat, and it is worth pricing before you buy licenses. The CLI itself is still Apache 2.0 on GitHub, so nothing about the binary was withdrawn.
Is Gemini Code Assist worth it against the alternatives?
At $19 a seat it is priced almost exactly where the rest of the market sits, which makes the decision a fit question rather than a budget one. Claude Pro, which is how you get Claude Code, is $17 a month on an annual subscription or $20 monthly. GitHub Copilot's individual plans start below both. So the old shorthand that Google's coding tools are the cheap option no longer survives contact with the price list, and at Enterprise, at $45 a seat, Google is comfortably the most expensive of the three.
Where a Code Assist license genuinely earns its price is when your code already lives on Google Cloud. Billing arrives on an invoice you already receive, the security and indemnification terms are the ones your legal team already reviewed, and code customization against your private repositories is a real capability that the per-seat consumer plans from other vendors do not offer at all. If none of that describes you, you are paying a Google Cloud price for a tool you could buy more simply elsewhere.

How many seats should you actually buy?
Fewer than you think, at least at first. Two things about this specific product argue for starting small and expanding rather than licensing the whole engineering org on day one.
The first is the commitment structure. Month-to-month costs 20% more, which is a known, bounded price for the option to change your mind. On a ten-person pilot that is a difference of $38 a month against $19 a seat annually, which is a cheap way to buy a year of flexibility while you find out whether people use it.
The second is the reason you are reading this at all. A vendor withdrew a tier of this product line at roughly 30 days notice in 2026, and the tier it withdrew was the one most of its users were on. That is not a reason to avoid Google, whose licensed customers were explicitly protected. It is a reason to keep any single vendor's coding tools out of the load-bearing parts of your pipeline until you have watched them for a while. If you do put a coding agent into CI, put it somewhere a silent failure is visible, because when the cutoff landed the command did not vanish, it simply stopped returning useful output while continuing to exit.
